Common questions
Questions about Trees n Bees
What Trees n Bees does, who it's for, and how to get it.
What is Trees n Bees?
Trees n Bees is a field logbook for small growers. It keeps tree details, work notes, photos, bloom dates, harvests, hive inspections and rainfall together on a map of your farm, so the work of one season can inform the next.
Who is it for?
Small orchards, backyard and small-scale beekeepers, and family farms with a few of everything: fruit trees, a kitchen garden, some hives and water tanks. It is made for growers who do the work themselves, not for large commercial operations.
What app can I use to keep records for my fruit trees?
Trees n Bees records each fruit tree on a grid that matches your orchard rows, with its variety, rootstock and planting date, and keeps its pruning, sprays, pests, bloom dates, photos and harvests against it, season after season.
Can I keep beehive inspection records in it?
Yes. Trees n Bees has a hive register and quick inspections (strength, brood, temperament, pests and mite checks), plus movements, AFB tests, bees and equipment brought in, training and honey harvests, in a logbook you can print. Check what your state asks of registered beekeepers.
How do I get Trees n Bees?
Trees n Bees is invite-only while we test it with a small group of growers. Request an invite with where you grow and what you keep; you'll join the waiting list, and we'll email you when there's a place.
Which phones and computers does it run on?
It runs in the web browser and installs from a link on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac, without an app store. Once installed it opens like any other app.
Does it work without phone reception?
It is designed for the paddock. Entries are saved on the device first and upload when you're back in range, and your family's entries come down. Open the app with reception on each device before you head out, so it's ready.
Can my family share the same farm?
Yes. One farm can be shared with family or helpers as owners, editors and viewers. Owners choose who is invited, and everyone sees the same records on their own device.
Can it send frost alerts to my phone?
Yes. Trees n Bees watches the forecast for your farm and can send alerts to your phone for frost (a watch and a warning, at temperatures you choose), hot days, heavy rain coming, dry spells, low tanks, hive inspections due, beekeeper registration renewal and captures waiting to be sorted. You choose the alerts on each device. On iPhone, add Trees n Bees to your Home Screen first.
Where does the weather come from?
Trees n Bees fills in daily weather for your farm's location from Open-Meteo, including chill hours, growing degree days and frosts. Your own rain gauge readings sit beside it, and alerts for frost, dry spells, heavy rain, hot days and low tanks can go to your phone.
Is it limited to specific locations or countries?
Trees n Bees is made in Australia and it works anywhere in the world, and you can optimise it to your local climate and measuring units.
Can I get my records out?
Yes. You can download a full backup, or spreadsheets (CSV) of your records, at any time.
Who sees my records?
Only the people you invite to your farm can see your data. All your data is yours. We don't sell or share your records with anyone and we have a strict no advertising rule.
